Microsoft Creates Developer Division

Microsoft Corp. this week created a Developer and Platform Evangelism Division under Jim Allchin to integrate developer tools and evangelism efforts across the company.

The division will be led by Eric Rudder who is now a senior vice president. Rudder, formerly vice president for Technical Strategy, is charged with coordinating the overall programming model for the PC and server, creating tools for the Microsoft .NET Platform and fostering synergies between Windows and the .NET Enterprise Servers.

Rudder reports to Jim Allchin, group vice president of Microsoft's Platforms Group. That expanding group already included Windows, the .NET Enterprise Servers and New Media Platforms.

Rudder's new division includes the Developer Division, Developer Marketing and Enterprise Tools, Content Development and Delivery Group, and Platform Strategy and Evangelism.

Rudder has been with Microsoft since 1988.
