NetIQ Releases Enterprise Firewall Reporting Product

NetIQ Corp. extended its firewall monitoring capabilities to the enterprise level this week with the release of the WebTrends Firewall Reporting Center.

The product grew out of NetIQ's March merger with WebTrends Corp. The firewall reporting center reports on 35 firewalls, runs on Windows and Solaris and is more scalable than NetIQ's existing WebTrends firewall reporting products.

The firewall reporting product takes raw firewall log file data and presents reports about the state of the firewalls, security events, Internet traffic and bandwidth utilization.

"Although firewalls are an integral part of every security perimeter, without an analysis and reporting solution it is impossible to know how effectively bandwidth is being utilized and what security events are occurring at the perimeter of your network," Tom Kemp, senior vice president of products at NetIQ, said in a statement. "With the addition of Firewall Reporting Center, we are now able to offer these capabilities to the largest and most Internet-intensive enterprises and managed service providers."

To improve scalability, Firewall Reporting Center allows several servers to analyze hundreds of firewall logs simultaneously and then return data for reporting from a single console.

The product analyzes data from firewalls and firewall devices, VPNs and routers. It includes native support for many of the largest vendors. More than 20 partners also support NetIQ's WebTrends Enhanced Log File (WELF) format.

Firewall Reporting Center also supports browser-based administration and role-based administration. The administration and report user interface runs on a fully configured Apache Web server that is included with the product.

NetIQ previously offered smaller scale firewall solutions, which remain available. Firewall Suite provided reporting for businesses using enterprise firewalls and proxy servers in a single-site environment. Firewall Appliance Analyzer provided basic reporting for small businesses using firewall appliances.
