NEC Releases Dual Processor Server

With most competitors taking aim at the higher end of the market these days, NEC Computers Inc. today released the Express5800/120Ed, a dual processor server that is geared toward smaller businesses and workgroups.

The latest offering from NEC features remote management capabilities. It is designed to accommodate growth up to two Intel Pentium III 733 MHz or 933 MHz processors, up to 4GB of 133MHz ECC SDRAM, integrated Ultra160 and Wide Ultra SCSI controllers and six PCI expansion slots. The server is designed to support file and print, e-mail, databases, and Internet and intranet among other specialized applications. It is offered as either a tower or a 5U rack-mount system.

Also announced today was the release of the Express5800/120Rc-2 server service provider platform, which includes Fibre Channel storage from EMC Corp., rack systems from American Power Conversion (APC) Corp., and hotload options for Red Hat Linux.
