Microsoft Releases Exchange 2000 to Manufacturing

Retail copies to hit store shelves by end of September.

Microsoft announced that Sept. 1 it released Microsoft Exchange 2000 to manufacturing. For you, the customer, this means that you'll be able to buy the retail version by the end of this month. Exchange 2000 is a significant departure from its predecessor, in that it requires Windows 2000 at its foundation.

Exchange 2000 also comes in an Enterprise edition, which can communicate with X.400 servers, and a Conferencing edition, which is optimized for data, voice and conferencing. Pricing starts at $1,299 for an Exchange 2000 Server server license/five Client Access License combo pack. The Enterprise and Conferencing modules are also available in evaluation form from Microsoft's Exchange Web site.
