AMD Offers W2K, Linux Drivers for Ethernet

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Inc. released an upgraded version of its PCnet software suite, featuring two new device drivers supporting Windows 2000 and Linux. The PCnet suite is the latest enhancement to AMD's Managed Performance Portfolio, a suite of networking software for AMD's line of 10/100 Fast Ethernet controllers.

The drivers enhance network availability, improve network manageability and administration, and reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) for the networked world. AMD worked with Microsoft to ensure the compatibility of its products with all of the Microsoft operating systems, and the PCnet drivers are compatible with Windows 2000, NT, 98/95, and Windows CE. Additionally, third-part Linux developers have supported PCnet Ethernet controllers in the past, and the open-source kernel includes a PCnet driver.

The new PCnet drivers are available free of charge and included with all Windows 2000 and Red Hat and Caldera Linux distributions being shipped today.
