A monitoring and maintenance tool that tracks NT services? That's what the latest version of ServiceKeeper does, and then some. ServiceKeeper keeps tabs on service failures by watching for specific events in the event log, looking up NT counters, and checking TCP/IP protocols, HTTP, SMTP, FTP, telnet, and pings. SeviceKeeper can schedule service stops and restarts—and even run custom batch programs—to perform backups or to clean system resources. It can also report on errors via SMTP, NT messages, and NT events. It runs on both Alpha and Intel machines running NT 4.0. ServiceKeeper is $195 for 2 monitored servers; volume pricing is available.
