Army Provider Enlists Beyond.com for Microsoft Software Distribution

Even the Army needs software, and when you're the Army, that means now soldier!
That's why GTSI (Washington, D.C., www.gtsi.com), the largest dedicated Federal government provider of computer products and broad-based information technology solutions, selected Beyond.com to be the provider for Electronic Software Distribution of software products over the Internet to a potential of more than 200,000 seats (desktop or portable computers), over the next five years under GTSI's Army License Software Upgrades, more popularly known as the Army Wide Volume Agreement for software product upgrades and updates.
"This is the first major software volume agreement for the DoD," says Joel Lipkin, vice-president of business development for GTSI, the prime contractor. "We believe the Army's Small Computer Program office has shown great vision in promoting this cost-effective and time saving method for enterprise-wide software licenses and latest versions to make sure that its customers' software remains current."
Beyond.com will electronically deliver Microsoft software products including Office, Windows NT Upgrade and Microsoft BackOffice Client Access License as a subcontractor to GTSI.
"The combination of GTSI's Army Wide Volume software agreement and Beyond.com's Enterprise Download Manager technology will ensure that the Army will be able to use the latest Microsoft software immediately after its release," says Kendall Fargo, vice president of enterprise and government sales for Beyond.com.
Currently, Beyond.com has contracts to electronically distribute software upgrades and updates to 70,000 seats within the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and to 5,000 seats within the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA). --Brian Ploskina, Assistant Editor
