Acer to Offer Tandberg's Tape Drives

Tandberg Data Inc. (Simi Valley, Calif., www.tandberg.com) today announced that Acer America Corp. (San Jose, Calif.) will offer the Tandberg Data 32 GB MLR1 tape drive as a storage option for its new Altos 1100 network server to be introduced next month.

The OEM agreement enables Acer to use Tandberg Data's 32 GB-capacity tape drive as part of its server/storage systems for its customers. This most recent agreement expands upon earlier OEM agreements between the two companies as Acer is already offering Tandberg Data's 8 GB SLR5 and 32 GB MLR1 tape drives with other servers in the Altos product line. The Tandberg 32 GB MLR1 is now available on the Altos 21000, 12000, and next month on the 1100 series servers.

Tandberg Data's 32 GB MLR1 offers a mean time between failures of up to 300,000 hours, 3 MBps data transfer rate, and a 55-second average file access time. The tape drive installs in a 5.25-inch half-height drive bay and operates compatibly with most operating systems. --Brian Ploskina, Assistant Editor
