Symantec Buys Intel's Anti-Virus Business

Symantec Corp. (Cupertino, Calif., www.symantec.com) announced today the purchase of Intel Corp.'s anti-virus business.

As part of the agreement, Symantec will support Intel's 18,000 registered anti-virus customers, and Intel will recommend Norton AntiVirus to its corporate customers. Intel will also market Norton AntiVirus products through its reseller channel.

Symantec also announced the licensing of Intel's systems management technology. Symantec will use the technology to help build the Digital Immune System it has been developing with IBM Corp.

Symantec plans to release a product later this year that incorporates Norton AntiVirus technology with Intel LANDesk Management Suite. The client portion will be bundled with future versions of LANDesk. -- Michele Rosen, Staff Reporter/New York Correspondent
