Information Advantage Brings Web Portal to BI

Information Advantage (Eden Prairie, Minn., www.infoadvan.com) hopes to sell those who use Yahoo! on a similar approach to interacting with business data. This week, the business intelligence software provider announced DecisionSuite Eureka!, with a name similar to Yahoo! from the tone down to the exclamation point.

The idea is to take the Web portal design in use by online services and search engine sites such as Yahoo (www.yahoo.com), America Online (www.aol.com) and Excite (www.excite.com). Instead of presenting users with the personalized array of resources and services such as e-mail, forums, search engines and online shopping malls, Eureka! would plug users into the business data forms of the enterprise.

Decision makers would use the Web portal to access all corporate data and tools, including ERP, operational data stores, multidimensional databases, data warehouses, data marts, query and reporting, OLAP and legacy business intelligence systems. Information Advantage says Eureka! will allow business users to securely explore and analyze content accessed through the portal.

The suite, expected to be released in December, has three components. My Eureka! allows users to personalize the gathering, organization and exploration of business intelligence. Eureka! Server provides Web-based services to allow an organization to create the business intelligence Web portal. Eureka! Workbench provides tools for optimizing performance of the other components. -- Scott Bekker, Staff Reporter
