Windows Server 2012 Thoughts

Windows Server 2012, for many IT pros, is far more relevant than Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 or even Office 2013.

The new server OS just shipped and we want a hands-on look. Did you beta test Windows Server 2012? Are you using the finished version? Care to share your thoughts in a Redmond magazine article?

If so, e-mail me at and I'll be in touch.

A series of how to articles with Windows Server 2012 would be great. From installing the various levels (headless, medium UI, and full UI) to any knew utilities, decision points for installation, storage options, etc... would be a welcome start. Seems as though most online magazines have gotten away from this over the years (in favor of a lot of conjecture, opinions, etc...). An honest to goodness set of howtos with it would be great!

Migrated to Windows 2012 and Exchange 2013 last weekend. For the most part, it's working pretty well. Was excited about using NIC teaming, but when I enabled it, server throughput slowed down to about 5Mbps. Haven't had time to troubleshoot it, so I disabled NIC Teaming.

Rolled out several DC,s and fileservers. Acting great. But yes, missong management app support ( even MS SC OM / CM ) is holding us back.

We've been looking at it for quite a while. (Since Beta) Lots of good things in it, but it will take time to roll it out on production systems. Management, provisioning, and backup tools and processes all need to support it first.

Sorry man. We only got approval for Server 2008 R2 a few months ago. 2012 is a long way off.

Windows Server 2012 is great. I can run it on my old laptop to use it's Hyper-V to run x64 virtual machines for my it tasks. With it's Hyper-V, my laptop can hibernate without any configuration as I did with Windows Server 2k8 before.

We have been testing Windows Server 2012, and have even started our initial rollout on production servers. Extremely interested in upgrades with hyper-v and RDS, and testing capabilities and performance compared with XenDesktop, Windows 2008 R2, and Windows 2012 with both win7 and win 8 clients. Very positive results so far with 2012.

Did initial testing on the De-Dupe that is built in, pretty sweet.
