Microsoft Solutions Framework Exam Released

Microsoft releases exam applicable to IT and developers tasked with major project deployments.

Microsoft on Tuesday is releasing its latest exam, 70-301, Managing, Organizing, and Delivering IT Projects by Using the Microsoft Solutions Framework 3.0 at Pearson Vue and Prometric centers worldwide. The exam is an MCSE on Windows 2003 and MCSD on .NET elective, according to the objective guide.

Candidates who plan to take exam 70-301 should have experience in enterprise application and systems planning, deployment and management in a team environment, with much of that work centrally managed through Microsoft Solutions Framework 3.0.

The exam is one of a handful of rare exceptions that straddle the IT and developer certifications, with many of the exam's objectives resembling an application deployment plan: project planning, risk mitigation, solution development, solution testing and risk mitigation, and pre- and post-deployment assessments.

For exam readiness, Microsoft recommends the following resources:

  • 1846: Microsoft Solutions Framework Essentials—Three-day, instructor-led seminar and workshop that introduces MSF 3.0.
  • 2710: Analyzing Requirements and Defining Microsoft .NET Solution Architectures—Five-day, instructor-led course that covers specifying, designing and deploying solutions based on .NET, using MSF 3.0 to manage the process.
The guide also points to MSF white papers available on the MSDN site at http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/teamsystem/msf/ for more information.
