Exchange 2003 Exam Tested This Week

Microsoft sends newest exam, 70-284, Implementing and and Managing Exchange Server 2003, to beta testing.

Microsoft today began beta tests of its new Exchange exam, 70-284, Implementing and and Managing Exchange Server 2003; candidates can register for the exam via Prometric and Vue testing centers. The testing phase ends Sept. 14. While under beta, the exam is numbered 71-284.

Exam 70-284 counts as an elective toward the Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 versions of the MCSA and MCSE titles, but it's a "prescribed" core exam for all versions of the new messaging specialist titles, MCSA: Messaging and MCSE: Messaging. Under the MCSE: Messaging for Windows 2000 title, the exam counts toward the prescribed path only if taken with 70-285, Designing an Exchange 2003 Organization, an exam that's slated for release later this year.

Microsoft plans to release Exchange Server 2003 in October; the product has been released to manufacturing. Trial versions of the software can be downloaded from Microsoft's Exchange Web site (click here).

Hard test. 90 Questions. I was expecting 45 like exchange 2000. There is a lost on clustering which hurt me. Not much on upgrading from 2000, but a lot on upgrading from 5.5. Some active directory questions mixed in. I had to hurry to my 217 so no time to send comments to them. Extended until Tuesday.

isn't microsoft offering relocation packages to bejing for communist training programs? only problem is your job turns to vapor after 6 months and you have to sign on with the merchant marine to get home.

Took it today. Seems to be a fair test; tests knowledge of how an Exchange 2003 server - group of servers - multiple organizations' servers - should be dealt with. Also includes stuff about securing it (ports, open relays, etc) so it's very relevant.

Unusual for MS (though this is my first '2003' exam), the focus was not so much on the new features of Server 2003 as it is overall functionality.

I am taking it on Saturday before 70-217. I will post my thoughts if it is allowed by Microsoft.
