Equity Firms To Acquire BeyondTrust and Compuware, Concur Reportedly In Play

Two key suppliers of enterprise tools yesterday said they're being acquired and another well-known software-as-a-service provider is reportedly in play. BeyondTrust and Compuware have agreed to be acquired by private equity firms while shares of SaaS provider Concur have traded higher following rumors that several software vendors have approached it, including Microsoft, Oracle and SAP, after hiring an investment bank to gauge interest.

Veritas Capital said it will acquire cybersecurity software vendor BeyondTrust, provider of software used to manage user access and privileges and risk management assessment tools. BeyondTrust's PowerBroker software is especially popular among those looking to manage access rights in Microsoft's Active Directory.

BeyondTrust said it has 4,000 customers in a variety of industry sectors including government, technology, aerospace and defense, media/entertainment, telecommunications, healthcare/pharmaceutical, education and financial services. In addition to managing user access, BeyondTrust offers tools designed to defend against cyber attacks. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

Application performance management software supplier Compuware yesterday said it has agreed to be acquired by private equity firm Thoma Bravo for $2.5 billion. The deal puts a 12 percent premium on the company's shares based on its closing price at the end of the trading day Sept. 2 and 17 percent over Friday's close.

Compuware is a leading provider of APM software used to monitor the performance of mobile, enterprise and mobile application infrastructure as well as a line of network testing and management tools. The company also offers a line of mainframe management tools.

Concur, whose popular SaaS software is used to manage business travel and entertainment expenses, had a stock price increase of 6.3 percent yesterday, giving it a market cap of $6.1 billion. According to a Bloomberg report, Oracle has decided to pass on it, while Microsoft and SAP are companies of interest, though none of the companies noted commented on the possible acquisition.
