John McAfee: That's One Way to Code all Night!

The stereotype of the code jock is pizza and Jolt Cola. The founder of McAfee was allegedly working on a more potent weapon -- something that no number of cans of Mountain Dew could stand up to -- meth. At least that's what they say in Belize.

After making a mint from McAfee Inc., John McAfee somehow found himself nude in Belize in bed with a 17-year-old woman (or would you call her a girl, she's clearly on the cusp). Sounds good so far.

But they weren't alone for long. McAfee has an unlicensed gun, so the cops busted in, busted him and knocked off his dog. Like any self-respecting ex-exec, McAfee ran away.

Here's where it get's complicated: The Belize Police claim McAfee was running a meth lab. Now he did, it appears, have lots of lab equipment since he started an antibiotic company in that country. And he claims he had a veritable cache of legal guns. So why would he then have one that was illegal?

The whole thing is in some crazy limbo, with McAfee back in the open and speaking on the record."

That, my friend, is some weird wild stuff.

i have been to belize many times, and the 1 thing i know is that they are all corrupt and money hungry. The police and coast guard are the worse with the customs even worse especially agent richardson, they will always stop americans then call the u.s. embassy thinking they will get some favors at a later date. the peole of belize are greath but anything with government is bad the belize people deserve better!!!

McAfee is a friend of mine, and your article repeats the incorrect "meth lab" headline that all the greasy tabloids ran with. With even minimal effort, it's easily found that this was a false claim that was immediately dropped, in fact all charges were dropped. The real problem down there is a banana republic that wanted to shake down a wealthy man who has done quite a bit for the community there. Do some research before trashing someone. It's bad journalism, plain and simple!

Let's make one thing clear - using the phrase "she's clearly on the cusp" implies that this is condoned behaviour. Instead of taking the tone of "look at the dirt we have on John McAfee", perhaps you should be doing an expose on what sort of wretched scumbag would keep a 17yo lover. Maybe find out how long they've been lovers? A week? A month? A year, Three years? If there's one, there's probably been more. There could be so much more to this story than we know, and nothing I can think of would be more in a good way. Report, don't dig dirt. Redmond has now lost all credibility in my eyes because of this implied "attaboy" comment that nearly tries to justify something as sleazy as a wealthy man having a teenage lover. Consider me an ex-subscriber.

True or not, whatever the age of consent in Belize, legal or illegal gun--now that these charges have been leveled--McAfee will never outlive them. Moral: If you're at all high-profile or well-heeled, don't even sniff the outskirts of anything dicey. Someone wants your money and the fame of taking you down. And someone will rat you out for a piece of the action.

The way this is written is interesting. You seem so proud to find dirt on someone. It is almost like you are the Inquirer but perhaps much less.
