Cloud Automation Startup MetricsHub Acquired by Microsoft
Seattle-based cloud performance management company MetricsHub has been bought by Microsoft for an undisclosed amount, the two companies announced on Tuesday.
MetricsHub, a past participant of Microsoft's Accelerator program for cloud startups, specializes in cloud performance management automation with its Active Cloud Monitoring product. Its ActiveScale feature automatically scales customers' cloud services up or down based on current demand. It also offers a data-collecting and diagnostics tool called MetricsHub Agent. The company currently has 529 users worldwide, according to its Web site.
"As an innovator in Active Cloud Monitoring, a technology that automates cloud performance management, MetricsHub helps customers more efficiently manage their cloud services at a lower cost," wrote Bob Kelly, corporate vice president of strategy and business development at Microsoft, in a blog post Tuesday.
"Cloud solutions are compelling for a variety of reasons -- scale, flexibility and value -- particularly for companies looking to do more with less," he continued. "However, it's difficult to understand, monitor and correlate all the application data points that tell you how and when you need to scale your application. Then to get real value out of those data points you need to automate how your application and cloud platform intelligently respond. That's where MetricsHub's technology comes in."
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. However, the two companies announced that Windows Azure customers will now be able to access a pre-release version of MetricsHub's Active Cloud Monitoring product for free via the Windows Azure Store.
