Freebie Friday 10/07: Program Tracking, Star Gazing, More

Welcome to another edition of Freebie Friday, the Redmondmag.com feature highlighting some of the best current Microsoft products, from software to ebooks, that won't cost you a cent. After checking out this week's batch, send us your suggestions for products that should be included to future editions at [email protected].

  • Process Explorer - This free download offers a window (actually, two windows) into what and where active programs are running. The top window will display active programs, the file location and CPU usage, while the bottom window can be configured to display custom reports and information.

  • Own Your Future: Update Your Skills with Resources and Career Ideas from Microsoft, by Kathleen Murray (ebook)- This book looks to be a good reference for those just starting their IT careers or for those that are looking to reinvent their job focus.

  • Microsoft Store (Windows Phone 7) - Not to be confused with Microsoft's Marketplace, this app provides info on where the nearest Microsoft store is, provides an up-to-date list of Microsoft classes and provides news and previews of available and upcoming products.

  • Fun Freebie: WorldWide Telescope - This Windows client allows for you to tap into thousands of earth- and space-based satellites and telescopes for real-time star gazing. There's even narrated tours by astronomers and professors.
