MCSA Ranks Exceed 5,000 Charter Members

Microsoft to recognize early adopters with wallet card and special certificate.

According to Microsoft, the MCSA certificate has been achieved by more than 5,000 candidates in less than the seven weeks since its debut. But this number includes candidates who took and passed the 70-218, Managing a Windows 2000 Network Exam, when it went into beta testing back in Dec. 17, 2001 and who had already satisfied the rest of the exam requirements for the MCSA track.

Microsoft says it already sent out Charter Member Welcome Kits starting in February to the first 5,000 charter members. The kit includes a wallet card and special certificate that denotes the achievement.

If one ady it happes that i meet a hiring manager who said "you are MCSA, so what" , I will tell him to shut up hisher dirty mouth because i have studied f'''ing hard to obtain my certifications, no way I will admit that!! I bet there are managers who value more.

I dun know why U guyz are makin unecessary noice. Why go for certification if U think its useless. I'm MCSE, MCDBA and MCSA and I think it's real valuable.

I am still debating wasting the money on any of these tests. It seems that with all the week long, guarantee pass test prep places that are cropping up many employers are starting to not care about certs. Skills still amount to a good deal of your resume bulk no matter how many certs you have. My buddy is MCP, Network+, A+, and a few others yet he is unemployed most of the time and working internet tech support the rest of the time. All because he has the papers but no real life expierience.

The 218 exam was so easy, even a person with single digit IQ (like George W. Bush) could have passed it. I perfer the exams to be tougher.

I will tell you the card, and certificate are to plain, Microsoft you can do better. Also if a employer tells me " so what " i would like to tell him Good Bye !!!!

I'm just damned at the increased exam fees at a certification that is losing popularity, has more people registering for exams and has more exams to sit for in order to be recognised. Why not keep exams low or is this a business? Keep fees lows because you are still making more money in certification business than before or was this a tactic?

You are killing us with your fees!!!!!!!!

I received my MCSA on Feb 26. I was unemployed and looking for work when many companies turned me down. I was A+, Network+, and MCP. I didn't get any job offers until I received my MCSA so to you who say it is a piece of shit all I have to say is "I am now employed because of it". As for the ones asking "Can you do the job?" YES, all I needed was a chance to to prove it but until I got MCSA I wasn't given a chance after my lay off in December. I am a charter 5000 member and PROUD of it as everyone should be. I agree even if I was unemployed if a hiring manager told me so what to having MCSA or MCSE I wouldn't want the job. That place wouldn't deserve my talents and abilities anyway. Get any certs you can! MCSA helped me get another job ! ! !

CAn you do the job?? you have the bragging rights of being an MCSE/MCSA etc, but can you perform when it really matter???

Thu, Mar 28, 2002 Anonymous Anonymous

I have to agree with allot of the guys here, the MCSE & MCSA are not valued as much any more by hiring managers, they prefer to get the younger IT persons and pay them less, whereas we burst our guts studying and it is a waste of time.

i have spent many hours working to get my mcsa. if someone basiclly told me "so", that means to me that they don't value my time or efforts, so if i was in that situation, i would of gotten up and walked out. i don't belive certs are worthless, you have to judge the person whom you are talking about. there are people who work hard at it and learn, and there are people who have haven't

I knew about MCSA.Its good in all

I got mine last week. Thought the 218 exam was weak in itself, especially after 219. I'll take the cert. The cap letters always stand out a little bit on youre rez when it's amongst the masses. I'd rather drink my beer than cry in it. You are your own security.

Some of guys should be happy that you've got your (MCSA) or any other certification for that matter. I'm tired of hearing that your certifications are worthless or doesn't look good. Shut the hell up. If you don't like it then don't get it.

i agree with RL that the date for charterd membership for MCSA should be exceeded, although i am a charterd MCSA member but i agree with him.

I spent a lots of nights and days preparing for my microsoft exams, therefore I wouldn't tolerate any 'Hiring manager' tellin me so what? u're an MCSE.

Fri, Mar 22, 2002 RL NEWYORK

With great efforts, I passed the last test, 70-218, on 3/14 and found out to be a great surprise that I am not a MCSA, Charter Member.
There was no hint that the 5000 quota is up. I believe the fairer way is a deadline, like Microsoft said with regard to Early Achiever status on MCSE 2000. I want to propose to Microsoft to change the deadline, not based on number, but based on a date, like Monday, April 15, 2002. This sounds and is a lot more reasonable to the people who want to pursue certifications.
Mr. Gates, please respond. RL in New York.

Yes another worthless cert from Microsoft. I just sat across from a hiring manager yesterday and when I pointed out that I was a MCSE, he said "So What." I found the comment rude, but I got his point. The Microsoft Certs have lost all credibility with hiring managers. The MCSA is just as worthless and is demeaning to people who actually try and do a good job.

Wed, Mar 20, 2002 Anonymous Anonymous

damn it! I wasn't able to take beta test or live exam or whatever due to no exam centers near my home even though I am over qualify for all MS Certs! Shit!!!

I also received my certificate and was disappointed to see that the stupid lapel pin punctured it in several places during shipping! I agree that aside from looking like I threw darts at it, the certificate is pretty bland.

Fri, Mar 15, 2002 Anthony Anonymous

Who cares! I haven't had the need to show my certification cards to anyone... ever! Your knowledge should be your ID.

Fri, Mar 15, 2002 Mark G. Anonymous

I agree with anonymous. My MCP wallet card looks better and I am not impressed with the certificate.

Thu, Mar 14, 2002 Anonymous Anonymous

I am an MCSA charter member as well,
but the wallet card and certificate is not that good-looking as I thought it to be .
