Exams Confirmed for Developer Certifications

Microsoft acknowledges tidbits of information on three new developer exams at Professional Developer Conference in Los Angeles.

Microsoft is waiting until January 2002 to make official announcements regarding exams for its developer-based certification titles, including a new component developer certification. But Microsoft hasn't kept this information under wraps.

MCPmag.com has already detailed specific exams that are being developed; see "Developer Certifications Get Behind .NET" in News). And in unofficial confirmation that Microsoft is tacking in that direction, the company has distributed this week at its Professional Developer Conference in Los Angeles a poster entitled ".NET Developer Career Skills Roadmap." The poster matches up developer IT roles with Microsoft Press books and IT training courses and exams. The matrices show the following three exams, which are expected to be released next year:

Technology IT Role Exam Associated with Role
Smart Clients Web Application Developer 305, Developing Web Apps with the .NET Framework
Smart Clients Windows Application Developer 306, Developing Windows Apps with the .NET Framework
XML Web Services

Data Component Developer

310, Developing Web Services and Server Components with Visual Studio .NET
XML Web Services Business Component Developer 310, Developing Web Services and Server Components with Visual Studio .NET

Microsoft says the IT roles in the matrix shouldn't be miscontrued as the titles for new developer certifications.
