Microsoft Launches Security Initiative

According to ENTmag.com, Microsoft Corp. this week launched an initiative to make Windows more secure.

Microsoft, whose platforms have been the prime targets in a recent destructive spate of e-mail worms, on Wednesday launched a two-phase initiative to make Windows-based systems more secure.

The new initiative is called the Strategic Technology Protection Program. It consists of a series of short-term fixes under the name Get Secure and some long-term fixes called Stay Secure.

"We realize that we've had two high-profile attacks on our systems, and we realize that we're going to need to respond," says Microsoft spokesman Jim Dessler.

The variations on the Code Red worm and the more recent Nimda worm have been targeted mainly at Windows platforms, especially Internet Information Services Web servers.
